Chapter Three

Second Chemo

Gynaecology

Back at the hospital luckily we don’t have to wait long at all before being called in for the ultra sound on my ovary. The appointment letter told me that I would need a full bladder and so after drinking lots and lots of coffee and water my bladder was full to the brim and ready for radiologist to start. The radiologist asked me to lie on the scanning couch, and then put some cold jelly on to my abdomen. She then ran the ultrasound probe over my skin The I could see the information displayed on to the monitor but after a couple of moments the radiologist asked me if it would be ok to perform a vaginal scan as the images the normal one was producing were not clear enough, so after discussing the procedure with me I was back up getting dressed to go across the corridor to empty my bladder. When I arrived back the radiologist had the consent form ready for me to sign.

Undressing once again I lay on the coach ready for a vaginal scan. Vaginal scanning is used as it can view the uterus and ovaries with a much clearer view and more detail of the delicate structure of the female pelvis.

Anyway the pictures were coming up onto the monitor large as life, checking the womb first that revealed that I had Fibroids. This could be a reason of why my periods had been becoming so irregular. Upon checking the ovaries it was revealed that I did have something on my right one. It was like having de-jar-vous. It was looking so much like it did all those years ago when I had the ectopic pregnancy which I pointed out straight away by saying ‘Ooh! There it is’. The nurse smiled at me and agreed. She told me that it could just be a normal cyst or a dermoid which are usually benign, but that the ultra sound pictures would be looked at very closely to work out exactly what it is. And so after she had taken all the pictures and measurements that she required I was free to go. I will receive an appointment in the post within the next couple of days to go back for the results.

I am not too concerned at the findings so far and the radiologist didn't seem too concerned either, so I am not going to let my mind go into overdrive about this. If the cyst does turn out to be cancer then it doesn’t really change a thing as far as I’m concerned. My mind is concentrating on getting rid of the cancer and I am very confident that I will achieve this with both with my positive mind and the help of the treatments that am and will be getting over the next few months and years.

Now that the hospital appointments are done with I can now go home and hopefully get my head down for half an hour before getting ready for the night ahead.
